Springtime in the Sandhills: Baby Calves, Spring Sports, and 4th Quarter Homework

Hey Everyone! Sorry, it's been a while. It's been jam-packed the last few months! In basketball, my team placed 4th in our conference and got district runner-up. It was one of the most fun basketball seasons I had ever played in.  Then, after about a week, track practice started. This year, we have more kids than we have had in the past: 41 kids! That means that there are more people in events, which gives our team more chances to get team points.  The two teams are divided into boys and girls teams.  In track, the top eight places have a certain amount of points associated with them. First place gets 10 points, second gets 8, third gets 6, fourth gets 5, fifth gets 4, sixth gets 3, seventh gets 2, and eighth gets 1 point. After the whole track meet is over, all of the points are added up, and then the teams are ranked from the highest number of points to the lowest number of points. So far, we have had three track meets, two outdoor and one indoor. In our first outdoor m...

Tis the Season

Hey Everyone! Sorry, it's been a while. Things have been busy. Basketball is in full swing and my team already has three varsity games under our belts. We won our first two games and lost our third, but we all played hard, even if some of our shots wouldn't fall like we wanted them to.  It has also started to look a little like a white Christmas with the snow that we've gotten. It has melted a little bit, but some is still left on the ground reminding us that it's December. The temperature is also reminding us it's December. These last few days we have had to pull out the heavy winter coats, the stocking caps, and the winter boots to stay warm.  Hold on a second...it's already December!  That means Christmas break!     It doesn't seem like we are almost done with 2024. Thanksgiving is done, it's less than two weeks till Christmas is here, and then after that, we hit New Year's and another year is here.  School is almost out for Christmas break and a...

Welcome

Hi! My name is Karlene. Welcome to my blog! I'm a Junior in high school balancing life as a student-athlete and I wouldn't have it any other way. I am always going somewhere--whether it's playing on the basketball court, throwing shotput and discus in track, or helping out on the ranch. I've always got something going on. While balancing my schoolwork, I love being able to play sports that I love, helping out on the ranch, and being able to spend time with my family. Sports gives me a chance to see how far I can push myself, mentally and physically. In basketball, I love running up and down the court and being able to help my team make the plays, put points on the scoreboard, and hopefully win the game! Throwing shot put and discus in the track is one of my favorites because it gives me a way to 'relax' after a busy day at school. I know, usually, you wouldn't think that throwing a weighted frisbee and a heavy ball would be relaxing, but it is for me. When I...
